Various people with the booking knowledge told MMA fighting of the card set to go down on July 10 featuring Jessica Eye Vs. Jennifer Maia. The UFC card is yet to receive the venue’s official announcement that will feature the former top women flyweight contenders back into the octagon after some time off the ring.
Both women fighters are returning from losses, with Maia ( 18-7-1) losing to Shevchenko at UFC 255 that went down in November 2020. Shevchenko won tremendously with all the three judges’ scorecards reading 49-46 against Maia. The loss saw Maia drop to 3-3 at the UFC.
However, Maia enjoyed a three winning streak, with her last win coming against Calderwood in August 2020. Her other wins came against Roxanne Modafferi and Alexis Davis. Maia’s winning streak came to an end after losing to Chookagian at UFC 244.
On the other hand, Eye (15-9) also suffered a loss against Shevchenko at UFC 238, 2019, where she received a head kick throwing her to the cold. After the loss, Eye’s last win came against Viviane Araujo, then falling to two streak losses to Cynthia Calvillo and Joan Calderwood.
Eye has faced some of the best female MMA fighters who came across her losing to Julianna Pena and Miesha Tate’s. She has also won against Katlyn Chookagian, Jessica-Rose Clark, Kalindra Faria, and Leslie Smith.
Both Eye and Maia target a win that will promote their flyweight rankings to secure a title shot soon. Maia, who earned her title shot from a streak of three wins from four matches, will be looking forward to climbing the rankings again. On the other hand, Eye is also eyeing a win to climb the flyweight division rankings to secure a title shot in the future.
