Eurozone consumer confidence cools yet stays above pre-pandemic level
Eurozone consumer confidence cooled down again this month amid fears of the spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19 but remained above its pre-pandemic level.
The flash estimate decreased to minus 5.3 in August from minus 4.4 in July, the European Commission said on Monday, but pointed still to a solid household spending in the third quarter.
The reading, which was based on data collected between August 1 and 22, was marginally weaker than the minus 5 forecast by economists polled by Reuters.
It also marked the second consecutive monthly decline after reaching a 20-year high in June, when the reopening of many businesses boosted shoppers’ morale.
